substitutions and additions
Ground Turkey: Using a leaner ground turkey will create a dryer burger that is more likely to fall apart. For the best turkey burger, use 93% lean meat. You can use this recipe with ground beef if you’d like.
Panko Bread Crumbs: Panko helps to hold the burger together. You can use almond flour, but your burgers will be more delicate.
Egg: We haven’t tried making this recipe without the eggs but I think it may work.
Milk: You can use regular dairy milk or nondairy milk.
Onion/Garlic: The addition of the grated onion and garlic helps to add more moisture to the burger, but you could substitute the fresh for 1 teaspoon each of garlic and onion powder.Â
Spices: This recipe is very flavorful, but has a basic burger flavor profile so feel free to experiment with additional spices!
Lower Carb: You can serve these burgers without the bun! These Lettuce Wrapped Burgers are delicious!
How to make Turkey Burgers
- In a large mixing bowl combine the panko, egg, milk, onion, garlic, worcestershire, and seasonings. Mix to combine and let sit for 2 minutes. Add the ground turkey and mix lightly until just combined.Â
- Divide mixture into 4 even portions and using slightly wet hands, form into even patties. Chill patties in the fridge until ready to cook.
- Preheat your grill or heat a heavy cast iron pan over medium heat and cook burgers until deeply charred, cooked through and a thermometer reads 165℉. About 10-12 minutes. Remove burgers and let rest for 4-5 minutes.Â
- Serve with preferred toppings and condiments. Some of our favorite suggestions are below.

Pro Tip:
Using moistened hands when making the patties will help to keep the mixture from sticking to your hands.
