This Healthy Pumpkin Spice Latte Recipe Is made with only 5 simple ingredients in under 5 minutes. Low in sugar and easily made dairy free! The perfect way to warm up on a chilly fall day!

Â
If you love pumpkin spice lattes but hate the cost and how much sugar they have – this healthy pumpkin spice latte is for you!
Made with only 5 ingredients in under 5 minutes, this healthy pumpkin spice latte has 1/8 the amount of sugar that Starbuck’s PSL does, and it can easily be made dairy free!
The second the weather gets the *slightest* bit chillier, I love making all things pumpkin: healthy pumpkin muffins, pumpkin breakfast cookies and pumpkin chicken chili are some of my favorites, but this homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe is a staple and made almost every single day!

If you’ve never made your own espresso drinks, don’t worry – it’s super easy. All you need is a good espresso machine (this is the one we have, it’s great!) some milk, and a few other ingredients.
Having an espresso machine is 100% worth the investment and you need it to make delicious homemade lattes. Plus, once you have it you can make things like a Vanilla Latte, Healthy Gingerbread Latte, or Healthy Peppermint Mocha.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe:
- Easy to make – This recipe is fool proof and so simple to make.
- Better Than Starbucks – This recipe truly tastes better than Starbucks! It has real pumpkin puree, and way less sugar.
- Fun while still being healthy– Eating healthy doesn’t mean you have to give up your favorite treats. I love making lighter swaps like this!
Ingredients
To make a healthy pumpkin spice latte you’ll need:

- milk – any kind works, dairy-free milk or non dairy
- pumpkin puree– make sure it’s real pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling (that is different!)
- pumpkin pie spice
- maple syrup
- espresso – regular coffee won’t work in this recipe, you really need espresso!
- milk frother (optional)
Substitutions
Maple Syrup: You can sub maple syrup for honey- it will be just as delicious. I have not tried any other sweetener in this recipe, but I’m sure others would work too!
Milk: You can use any milk in this recipe and it will work just fine. Homemade almond milk or walnut milk go great in this recipe!
Pumpkin: Make sure you are using pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie filling. One is plain, the other is sweetened.
Pumpkin Pie Spice I highly recommend ordering pumpkin pie spice simply because it’s great for so many things (smoothies, stirring in coffee, adding to yogurt, and of course pie!). If you don’t have it on hand and still want to make this you can use 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and a dash of ground nutmeg and ground ginger. It will still be delicious
Can I make this without an espresso machine? Our Nespresso is one of the most used kitchen utensils that we have and I think it is well worth the $$ (If you buy even ONE latte a week at Starbucks and make it at home instead this will pay for itself!) You could sub in 1/2 c coffee to this recipe but it will not have the same amount of caffeine and may taste a little watered down… Treat yourself and get the nespresso machineÂ
Other Flavors: If you’re not a pumpkin fan try this Peppermint Mocha or Matcha Latte!
Iced: You can easily make this iced. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake to combine and serve over ice!
Can I make this whole30? Yes, omit the maple syrup.
How to make Healthy Pumpkin Spice Latte
Making a healthy pumpkin spice latte couldn’t be easier.

- Pour the milk mixture into a mug. Top with espresso and enjoy.
You could also microwave the milk/pumpkin and heat it that way!
Liz’s Pro Tip:
Add a little bit of vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste to add extra flavor to this recipe
Low Sugar Pumpkin Spice Latte FAQ
If you’re ordering a pumpkin spice latte instead of making your own we recommend asking for half the amount of syrup and opting for non fat milk. Skip the whipped cream.
The pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks is not healthy. It’s very high in sugar and fat. This pumpkin spice latte recipe is a much better option! Most pumpkin spice latte recipes/drinks from coffee shops are not healthy.
Storage
Storing: We don’t recommend making/storing this pumpkin spice latte ahead of time. It’s best made fresh.
If you’re making iced pumpkin spice lattes – you can mix the pumpkin, milk, syrup and spices together and store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

So good and a fraction of the cost of Starbucks and the time it takes to get there. This is my new morning treat!
Rhonda Stipe says
which Nespresso machine do you use. Also does it come with a fillable K-cup where you can use your own coffee? The K-cup pods are too expensive for me. There are so many machines to choose from.
The Clean Eating Couple says
The nespresso is linked in the blog post. Here’s a link to the one we have It didn’t come with a fillable cup, and i’m not sure if they sell the refillable one. The pods come out to less than 60 cents for most of them, so that’s what we buy.

I really appreciate your recipes and have made quite a few of them with great results. I wonder if you have a good pumpkin soup recipe. Mine never turns out great..
Thank you

Marcia Hogue says
This is such a great recipe. It’s so easy and most people have all the ingredients. I freeze pumpkin in ice cube trays and leave them in my freezer to add to smoothies.
Maureen Forte says
Super easy to make! I made one yesterday on the stove and one this morning in the microwave. It just tastes yummy, wholesome and clean without the sugary pumpkin syrup. I know when I drink it, I’m making a better choice.
The Clean Eating Couple says
So glad you liked it!
Lisa Mazzaro says
I love this recipe! It’s delicious? I never want another Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. It’s so fake and gross. I love enjoying something that is still a treat and equally delicious! Thank you Liz!

So glad you like it, Lisa! Thank you!
Dakota says
So delicious! I’ve been craving a good PSL but the store bought ones just taste so insanely sugary to me that I can’t get through them (or justify the price). This is a great alternative and is satisfying all my pregnancy cravings 😅
The Clean Eating Couple says
So happy you liked it! Thank you!
Kimmy says
Ideas of how to adapt this to make a healthy pumpkin spice chai?
The Clean Eating Couple says
I’m sorry but I don’t know how to do that. If you try something and it works let me know!
Jody says
This sounds really good but I can’t drink coffee. What could I substitute for coffee?
The Clean Eating Couple says
Decaf espresso might work. This is mean to be made with coffee, so without it it’s just pumpkin spiced milk.
Katie Sanchez says
I love a good PSL but the ones at coffee shops are usually too sweet. This recipe is so good and easy to make! I also don’t feel terrible for drinking a cup full of sugar! Highly recommended!
The Clean Eating Couple says
So glad you liked it, Katie! Thank you!!
Paula says
Made this with cold brew ! It made a delicious iced latte 🙂
The Clean Eating Couple says
So glad you liked it, Paula!
Staci says
This is exactly what I needed to find! PSL fandamonium begins tommorow here and I find Starbucks way too sweet the last couple years! I’m def going to try this. But it’s still August and I’m holding out for the dog days of summer!
The Clean Eating Couple says
Hope you enjoy it, Staci! Thank you!!
Kimberly says
So delicious and made my house smell so good! I can’t wait to make it again this fall!!
The Clean Eating Couple says
So glad you liked it, Kimberly! We make this all year round 😉
Melissa Grant says
DO you think this could be made in large batches and heated for on the go mornings?
The Clean Eating Couple says
I wouldn’t recommend that.. Only because coffee is best served fresh and not reheated! It’s pretty simple to throw together in the mornings though!
Jenn says
Any reason you can’t make the pumpkin mixture ahead of time? Then add to fresh expresso ? Also have you tried the pumpkin milk mixture in an iced beverage?
The Clean Eating Couple says
The pumpkin will settle/separate. I haven’t tried this iced! If you try it – let me know!
Teresa says
This is amazing! I’m not a huge Starbucks PSL fan because they’re usually very bitter to me but this was just the right amount of sweet and deliciousness!
The Clean Eating Couple says
So glad you liked it!! I agree – I’m not a big fan of Starbucks either, but love this version!
Brianne says
Can’t wait to try this and share! Question: does the puree dissolve to a really thin consistency di you don’t have lumpy coffee? 🙂
The Clean Eating Couple says
Nope, not at all! The puree totally dissolves. You can whisk it in with the rest of the ingredients or a frother will work too!
Kerry says
This is DELICIOUS! I’ve been seeing PSL ads from Starbucks and wanted a healthier version – I like this one better!!
The Clean Eating Couple says
Yay!! This makes me so happy to hear, Kerry!! Enjoy 🙂
